Performance modelling of the Southampton Freight Train Lengthening project
Robustness evaluation of the new timetables with the new Southampton Terminals layouts. Testing of different freight trains on the new infrastructure
In the first part of the project trenolab evaluated the performance of new South Western timetables. Starting from the infrastructural improvement of the Southampton docks area (necessary for the stabling of freight trains of module 775m in the terminals), trenolab evaluated the timetables feasibility and, using stochastic simulations, tested the robustness of each timetable draft.
In the second part of the project trenolab identified the best combinations of weight, length and traction unit for the freight trains used in the future South Western timetables. The modelling work ensured also the compatibility with the new docks infrastructure at Southampton.
