Chiltern Main Line
Timetable Analysis and Optimisation of the Chiltern Main Line
The Chiltern Main Line connects London and Birmingham – the two largest cities in the UK – and is therefore heavily used for both long-distance and local traffic. trenolab worked closely with local partner Rail Aspects to analyse current operations and identify timetable refinements designed to increase service quality. We began by developing new timetable alternatives based on an in-depth analysis of existing operations, then used stochastic microscopic simulation to test these alternatives, developed detailed punctuality and reliability statistics, and made recommendations for timetable refinements and dispatching rule changes, particularly at the Marylebone station.
Our tasks:
- Operations analysis
- Timetable refinement
- Microscopic simulation model development
- Microscopic simulation model calibration
- Microscopic stochastic simulation
