Tram-Train Massy-Evry in Paris
Simulating operations on a mixed heavy rail and tram line
The 20-km long line Évry-Massy will serve all in all 16 stations and stations among which 11 new stations, connecting through the existing main line of Longjumeau, Chilly-Mazarin and Épinay-sur-Orge. Then, in an urban tramway network, it will serve the municipalities of Épinay-sur-Orge, Morsang-sur-Orge, Viry-Châtillon, Grigny, Ris-Orangis, Courcouronnes and finally Évry. It will have interchanges with existing Réseau Express Régional (RER) lines B, C and D.
The main challenge for operating this line is that it is formed by two different systems: a traditional railway between Massy and Epinay with interactions with other services (freight trains and few TGVs) and regular tram line between Épinay-sur-Orge and Évry-Courcouronnes operating aside existing roads.
trenolab, together with its partner Alius Consulting, has been asked by SNCF Réseau to simulate operations considering the impact of road traffic. The study demonstrated the feasibility and robustness of the proposed plan.
