LGV Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur
Analysis of proposed timetable and infrastructure. Stochastic simulation of timetables for LGV PACA high speed line.
The LGV Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (LGV PACA) is a French high-speed rail project intended to extend the LGV Méditerranée from Marseilles towards the Côte d’Azur. The project will be built in stages during the coming years. In this project trenolab was asked to analyse planned timetables for each stage of the proposed line. We used TRENOplus and TRENOanalysis to obtain stochastic traffic data for the analysis. This data was used to develop an OpenTrack microscopic simulation model for conducting probabilistic dynamic simulations of future service.
The simulation results showed the differences in train punctuality, and therefore the time saved by users, for various project scenarios. These results made it possible for the first time in France to integrate the “quality of service” component into the evaluation of a major infrastructure project (more than €15 billion of investment).
